LUXOR, EGYPT, 18th January, 2018 (WAM) — The Zayed Charity Marathon kicks off tomorrow, Friday, in the Egyptian city of Luxor for the fourth year running, with the proceeds of the race, held in memory of late Sheikh Zayed, to go to Shefaa Al Orman Hospital in Luxor, for the free treatment of cancer.
In a press conference held at Karnak Temple here today to mark the occasion, Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt, said the Zayed Marathon honours the country’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed, an avid supporter of charity, and is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The ambassador expressed his confidence that the race would witness unprecedented turnout as it will coincide with the launch of the Year of Zayed 2018.
”The charity run has gained international recognition and reputation since it was first launched in New York in 2015,” he noted.
The ambassador expressed sincere thanks to all the departments standing behind the organisation of the event, particularly the Luxor Governorate and the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, hailing the deeply-rooted ties between the UAE and Egypt as a role model for pan-Arab relations thanks to the policy adopted by the wise leadership of both nations.
The news conference was attended by Luxor Governor Mohamed Badr, who affirmed that city’s full readiness to welcome the event and present it to the entire world in the best possible way.
For his part, Lt. General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Event Organising Committee, said that the race goes beyond the sports level to reflect the fruitful cooperation ties binding the two friendly nations across all domains.
