ABU DHABI, 5th December, 2017 (WAM) — The Ministry of Community Development has finalised the draft law on voluntary work, Hessa Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, told the Federal National Council, FNC, on Tuesday.

”The bill has been referred to the Ministry of Justice’s technical legislations committee for review and will be sent back to the house for debate Aand then to the Federal Cabinet for approval,” Buhumaid said in her reply to a member’s question about a law that regulates voluntary work.

The question coincides with the celebrations of International Volunteer Day, which falls on 5th December.

”The bill aims to spread and encourage the culture of volunteerism as well as regulate and develop voluntary work to fall in line with the government policies and agendas. It calls for co-ordinating voluntary work across the country and establishing a database for volunteers to encourage them to register with the volunteer platform,” she explained.

In September, the media reported that UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had given instructions for preparing a strategic, legislative and regulatory framework for humanitarian and charitable work in the UAE.

The minister stated that charities operate under the Federal Law No. (2) for 2008 and under the supervision of the ministry.

“Charitable organisations meet requirements of some segments of the society. We are in the process of creating a benchmark for assessing the efficiency of these organisations,” she said.

Today’s session, which was headed by Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the FNC, also saw questions being addressed to Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, about the increase in prices of cars.
