UAEU Space Sciences Centre to represent nation at COSPAR

AL AIN, 16th May, 2019 (WAM) — The Centre for Space Science and Technology at the United Arab Emirates University has obtained the membership of the International Committee for Space Research, COSPAR, to represent the UAE in the International Organisation for Space Cooperation, COSPAR.

Commenting on the announcement, Said Ahmed Gobash, Chief Scientist at the United Arab Emirates University, said that COSPAR membership would allow the centre and researchers at the University and the country to gain access to international expertise and research in space science.

“It is a great opportunity to build strategic and vital partnerships with global research centres to contribute to the development of national capabilities in space technology and research, supporting a viable national economy and serving the policy of the national space sector,” he added.

Dr. Qalid Al Hashimi, Director of the Space Mission at the Emirates Space Agency, said the COSPAR membership will provide the centre an opportunity for global expertise exchange in the space sciences and technology sector.

COSPAR is an international commission for cooperation in space research founded in 1958.
