ABU DHABI, 18th April, 2018 (WAM) — The UAE strategy for the future is partly aimed at promoting the values of tolerance and socio-cultural cohesion across the world, according to Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.
“Cultural diplomacy is a deeply rooted concept in the UAE, the seeds of which were sown by the founding father late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,” the minister affirmed in a panel session hosted by Warehouse421 in conjunction with UAE’s National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, during which Al Kaabi and Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State, addressed the audience on the country’s soft power and consistent attempts to build up channels of cultural dialogue with different world countries.
“More than 200 nationalities are living in the UAE in peaceful coexistence, setting a global model to be copied for tolerance, ethnic diversity and socio-cultural cohesion,” added the minister, noting that the values of culture and arts are integral part of the all-embracing renaissance the country is witnessing at present.
For his part, Nusseibeh said the UAE founders and ancestors had a clear vision toward building a modern state that can survive the headwinds blowing across a turbulent region.
“Such a well thought-out vision entailed two main pillars; the first was providing proper education for UAE citizens, while the second was premised to establishing channels of cooperation with the outer world across different levels,” the minister said.
Culture and innovation are part of the UAE soft power that contribute to bolstering the country’s foreign policy, he added, noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, along with other strategic partners, is shedding extensive light on the UAE’s cultural achievements through the country’s different embassies and consulates around the world in harmony with the UAE vision and strategy for the future that is aimed at promoting values of culture and innovation across all fields.
The panel session, titled “Role of Arts in Cultural Diplomacy”, fits within the Warehouse42’s mission to explore new concepts around arts and culture.
