ABU DHABI, 6th February, 2018 (WAM) — The AED7.2 billion housing project for Emiratis to be undertaken by the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme which will provide 7,270 units is another step in the continual efforts being made by the UAE to ensure its citizens are provided the foundational element for an assured and dignified life, a UAE newspaper has said.

In an editorial on Tuesday, the Gulf News said, “The Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, SZHP, established in 1999, has played a seminal role in enabling citizens to own homes and this dedicated vision at the federal level, as well as in all the seven emirates, has enabled about 80 percent of Emiratis to own homes, a percentage that is among the highest in the world.”

The Dubai-based daily added, “This happy achievement has been the result of the UAE’s commitment to its people and their quality of life. Last year, the largest housing project for Emiratis in Abu Dhabi, Riyadh City, was announced which will house 200,000 people as was also the updating of housing policies which includes provision for Emiratis aged 22 to be eligible for home ownership programmes.

“Beyond the housing programmes, the government is also attending to other details that will enable Emiratis to lead a high quality of life that aligns with sustainability and healthy surroundings. For example, Dubai Municipality said it will give 100,000 energy-saving Dubai Lamps, an innovative energy-saving LED lighting that is said to be the most efficient in the world, to housing projects for Emiratis.”

In conclusion, the editorial said, “Affording citizens the opportunity to own a home which shelters, nurtures and anchors them is an impetus for social progress and stability that is inextricably linked to national development. In devoting their attention and untiring efforts to this matter, leaders of the UAE are ensuring they create a stable, secure and happy Emirati society.”
