UAE Embassy issues warning over Amsterdam shooting

Dubai: The UAE Embassy in The Hague has issued a warning, calling on Emiratis to take extra caution after a shooting incident was reported in the streets of Amsterdam.

One person was killed and two others injured in a shooting incident on Friday evening in Amsterdam’s city centre.

Dutch media quoted sources saying that it was not a terror attack.

“One person has died and two wounded, a man and a young woman, were taken to hospital after a shooting on Grote Wittenburgerstraat, in the city centre,” Amsterdam police spokesman Leo Dortland told AFP.

Although police refused to release the victim’s name, Dutch media reported that he was a 17-year-old boy of Moroccan origin.

The incident took place at the Grote Wittenburgerstraat district. The street is a 20 minutes’ walk to the east of the central station.
