UAE Disaster Management Authority, UNISDR discuss cooperation

ABU DHABI, 8th May, 2018 (WAM) — Dr. Jamal Mohamed Alhosani, Director-General of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, has met with Sujit Kumar Mohanty, Chief of United Nations Office for Disaster Reduction, UNISDR, of Arab States office in Cairo, and discussed mutual cooperation and exchanged experiences in the preparedness and disaster risk reduction fields.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed boosting coordination and developing strategies that contribute to reducing the consequences of disasters and crises and achieve the sustainable development goals.

They also reviewed the UAE practices in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, Sendai Framework – the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda, with seven targets and four priorities for action – as a leading country in the field of risk reduction and to strengthen the country’s position in global classifications in the face of disaster risks.

Mohanty praised the UAE role and its leadership for their contribution to foreign emergency and crisis assistance programmes in many countries, their humanitarian role in building disaster-affected cities, as well as their leading position as a donor country for humanitarian and relief assistance.
