ABU DHABI, 13th March, 2019 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union,GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation,FDF, today received, in Qasr Al Bahr, Karen Pence, the wife of the Vice President of the United States, US.
Pence is currently visiting the UAE to attend the launch of the Special Olympics World Games, Abu Dhabi 2019, which will be held tomorrow.
Sheikha Fatima welcomed Pence and briefed her about the UAE’s overall advancement, especially in terms of the achievements of women.
Sheikha Fatima said that the Special Olympics affirms that the UAE is the country of tolerance, which promotes peaceful coexistence between peoples while pointing out that there are over 200 nationalities living in the UAE, who enjoy complete freedom regardless of colour, sex or religion.
Sheikha Fatima explained that Abu Dhabi 2019, which is being held for People of Determination, is a new chapter in the UAE’s pioneering and excellence in organising and hosting major international sporting events.
The “Mother of the UAE,” Sheikha Fatima, pointed out that Emirati women are key partners in the success of the international humanitarian sporting event while pointing that out women who are People of Determination have achieved many sporting accomplishments for the country, and are partners in the country’s comprehensive development.
Pence praised Sheikha Fatima’s support for women while adding that the Special Olympics is an international event that is important to People of Determination.
She then thanked Sheikha Fatima for her hospitality.
