SHARJAH, 8th February, 2018 (WAM) — H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, today received a delegation of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, ICCROM, at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies in University City.
The delegation included Dr. Webber Ndoro, Director-General of the ICCROM; Dr. Zaki Aslan, Director of the ICCROM-ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre in Sharjah; Dr. Yousef Fadl, Chairman of the National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums, NCAM, in Sudan; Dr. Abdulrahman Ali, Director-General of the NCAM; Dr. Ijlal Mohammed Othman, Deputy Chairman of the NCAM and ICCROM in Sudan, and Dr. Stefano De Caro, Former Director-General of the ICCROM.
Dr. Sheikh Sultan welcomed the delegation, who are participating in the Arab Forum for Cultural Heritage in Sharjahk, praising the ICCROM’s efforts to research and monitor cultural and architectural heritage, and shed light on Arab civilisations and their history in various parts of the Arab world.
During the meeting, Sheikh Sultan reviewed the ICCROM’s international efforts to preserve cultural heritage in Arab and African countries, and welcomed Dr. Ndoro in his new position and wished him luck.
The meeting also discussed the cultural co-operation between the ICCROM and Sharjah.
H.H. Sheikh Sultan was briefed on the forum’s mechanism of work, and Dr. Ndoro thanked him and praised Sharjah’s cultural and heritage efforts, as well as its approach to preserve the emirate’s diverse cultural heritage and the work of relevant local institutions.
Sheikh Sultan accompanied the delegation in a tour of the centre’s departments, including its collection of rare history and geography books. .
