CAIRO, 5th February, 2019 (WAM) — H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah said that Egypt has taught him culture, and that the country has a great influence not only on him, but over the entire Arab world.
He made his remarks during a speech on Monday, as he received ‘Distinguished Personality Award 2018’ from the Cairo University. Sheikh Sultan said that the university had provided him with the right knowledge and contributed to building a part of his personality.
The award is a recognition of Sharjah’s Ruler great support to Cairo University and as one of its most prominent graduates.
Sheikh Sultan said Egypt had a great cultural influence on him, and on his life, which in turn reflected on his country. “Despite all the achievements in Egypt, we are still at the beginning, and one day Egypt will be at the top of the Arab and African countries,” he added.
The Ruler of Sharjah concluded: “We are ready to support the development of the Kasr El Aini Teaching Hospital project, and to contribute to the international university project in 6th of October City. We are working on the development of laboratories at the Faculty of Agriculture according to the highest standards.”
The ceremony started with a speech by Cairo University President Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, in which he expressed his happiness and pride of the visit of Sheikh Dr. Sultan.
Dr. Elkhosht reviewed some aspects of the change that has taken place in the university since the visit of the Sharjah Ruler to the university last year.
He pointed out that the foundation stone for Cairo International University in 6th of October city has been laid. The university is being built based on the idea of programmes and not colleges. A large part of the implementation of the first phase has been completed. The first lecture hall at the university will be named after the Ruler of Sharjah.
In turn, Dr. Khaled Atef Abdel Ghaffar, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said: “Sheikh Sultan is a special Arab ruler, who is known for his care to science and is a patron of literature, culture and art.”
The Ruler of Sharjah presented a series of literary, historical and artistic publications of his works to Cairo University.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries and top officials.
