Sharjah Crown Prince attends opening of 3rd Desert Theatre Festival

SHARJAH, 15th December, 2017 (WAM) — Under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, attended the opening of the 3rd Sharjah Desert Theatre Festival in Kuhaif on Thursday.

Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan and the audience watched the opening of the festival, which features four plays that were inspired by the desert environment of the UAE, Oman and Mauritania in its second and third days, to eventually conclude in Morocco, according to the Sharjah 24 news website.

The new edition of the festival, organised after the success of the previous two editions, highlights Sharjah’s desire to support and develop Arab theatre, in general, as well as the concept of the desert theatre.

The open-air festival is a realisation of the directives of Dr. Sheikh Sultan to showcase various forms of culture, art and literature to the people, to give them the opportunity to enjoy Sharjah’s artistic abundance.

The festival, organised by the Theatre Department of the Sharjah Department of Culture, will run until 17th December.

The site in Al Kuhaif is equipped with the latest lighting and sound systems, to suit the nature of the festival’s offerings.

The opening of the festival was attended by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office; Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture; Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Department Authority, along with several members of the Sharjah Consultative Council, senior officials, artists and fans.
