DUBAI, 20th April, 2018 (WAM) — Secretary-General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, has said that people-to-people dialogue between France and the UAE is very important for bringing peace, stability and prosperity, and “this is the spirit which we are working on” instilling.

“We need further meetings and encounters between people to help establish peace, stability and prosperity, and that is the spirit in which we are working together,” Gourdault-Montagne told the Emirates News Agency, WAM, yesterday at the inauguration of the new cultural spaces – theatre, art gallery, library and restaurant – of the Alliance Francaise in Dubai.

“UAE has great potential, which we can explore together; there are more areas where we can work out together like vocational training, hotel building and gastronomy. France wants to increase tourism exchanges with the UAE as tourism is also our focus of attention, we want to work together not only to have more Emirati tourists in France but more French visitors to Emirates.”

“I came to Abu Dhabi for the 10th session of the Strategic Dialogue between France and the UAE, and it was an important meeting in which we have decided to follow up on the implementation of the decisions taken by the French President Emmanuel Macron and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, so there are lots of committees working on issues like economy, finance, culture, education, also space industry and health care, so various subjects,” the Secretary-General said.

This relationship between “our two countries are founded by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and this session took place in the Year of Zayed, so it was more important for us to show that how trustful we work together and who we can go ahead,” he added.

He said that Dubai is also a major destination for French people, “We have many friends here; many French people are living here, and also we have this Alliance Francaise, which has expanded its place, got renovated with the help of some sponsors. It is a very active alliance with thousands of students learning French; the French President has said that French is a language of globalisation just as other languages like English and Arabic.”

“French is a language of poets and literature, but it’s also used in legal affairs, economy and innovation,” he went on to say. “We are glad to be here; we know that we can rely on the support of our Emirati friends, especially in Dubai. And I personally thank Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State for his positive support.”
