Patna: A man entered a government school in Jharkhand state and beheaded a woman teacher before walking away with her severed head.
The incident has caused panic among teachers and prompted authorities to close the school immediately.
The killing took place at Khaparsai primary school, in Saraikela district, on Tuesday.
The reason for attack was not known at the time of going to press.
Reports quoting police sources said the man armed with a sharp-edged dagger entered the school today and called a female teacher outside.
Once she emerged from a room at the school, the man attacked her with the sharp-edged weapon, killing her on the spot.
After killing the teacher, the man fled with her severed head in hand. The victim has been identified as Sukuru Hesa, 35. Police launched a manhunt to find the killer who was believed to be hiding in the nearby jungles.
“We are trying hard to nab him, he is hiding in the jungle,” local deputy superintendent of police Avinash Kumar told journalists.
He said police teams had surrounded the killer from all sides.
The incident has caused panic in the area as terrified schoolteachers hurriedly locked up the school building and fled away.
