Make a Wish Foundation celebrates ‘World Wish Day’

ABU DHABI, 29th April, 2018 (WAM) — The UAE’s Make a Wish Foundation, headed by the wife of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, H.H. Sheikha Shaikha bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, celebrated “World Wish Day” anniversary that falls on 29th of April each year, marking the first wish granted to Chris Greicius in 1980 of becoming a police officer in Pheonix, Arizona located in the United States.

“Here in UAE, we are proud to be part of such a great organization, and to be the only branch in the Arab world tied to the international institution that, throughout the years, was able to grant hundreds of thousands wishes of children with serious life-threatening diseases” said Sheikha Shaikha bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Make a Wish” Foundation, “I am also proud that UAE’s “Make a Wish” Foundation, and since its establishment in 2003 until the end of 2017, has been able to grant more than 2800 wishes for children from various nationalities.”

“Our celebration in this global occasion coincides with the “Year of Zayed 2018″, as declared by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan marking 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE. The Year of Zayed highlights Sheikh Zayed’s legacy and humanitarian visions, praise his generosity in helping poor and needy people from all over the globe, regardless of their religion, color, or race”, Her Highness added, “And we are pleased that the foundation during the first quarter of 2018 was able to grant (254) wishes for children with serious life-threatening diseases inside and outside UAE. In addition to improving the level of granted wished to vary from obtaining the latest electronic device to traveling abroad, and much more!”


She also noted, “We cherish the quality leap witnessed by ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation in the field of granting wishes during the “Year of Giving 2017,” she added, “That year was filled with generous giving and outstanding community initiatives, along with accomplishing an international-level achievement of granting 500 sick children their wishes within and outside UAE.”

Her Highness said, “We will continue to work on our strategy during the Year of Zayed 2018, and on spreading our humanitarian noble message through various initiatives and activities holding the number ‘100’, including granting 100 wishes in Yemen, 100 wishes in Jordan, in addition to granting a minimum of 300 wishes in the UAE, making the happiness and joy of sick children and their families our goal.”
