Abu Dhabi: Bus commuters in the capital’s Musaffah area can now avail of free rides to the bus stops in their area, the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport announced in a statement on Sunday.
The rides are provided by minivans painted in white and turquoise as part of the Department’s ‘ride and hail’ initiative, which aims to make bus transport more convenient in the capital. The initiative is currently in its pilot phase and will only be available in Musaffah between 6am and 10pm daily.
Commuters can flag down the shuttle minivans as soon as they spot them, ride to their bus stops, and then board the bus they need to take. The Department added that it will study the public reaction to the service in order to determine the need to expand similar services to other areas of the capital.
