New service enables phone users to share GPS coordinates during times of distress or emergency
Fujairah: Police here announced the launch of an SOS service on Thursday to create an open line of emergency communication in times of distress.
Fujairah residents can SMS with their GPS coordinates to the Fujairah Police who can then respond with appropriate emergency services.
The service is crucial for users who are lost or require emergency care when in remote areas such as the desert or at sea with limited or no connectivity, police said.
Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Bin Ganem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, said the service should help greatly.
“The Fujairah Police are committed to enhancing our services to ensure the highest level of protection of our people. The launch of the SOS service demonstrates our commitment to leverage innovative and reliable technology to ensure the safety and protection of our residents,” he said.
The service is directly connected with Fujairah Police operations room and can be reached via smartphones through the Ministry of Interior’s apps. Fujairah Police can also be reached at 09-2224411.
