Federal prosecution launches app to report crime

People can report any illegal act or provide information about suspicious activities via app

Sharjah: Members of the public can now report acts that are punishable by law using a new application launched by the UAE Federal Public Prosecution.

Counsellor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney-General, said the new application — My Safe Society — which can be downloaded on mobile phones through iOS and Android operating systems was launched as part of the Public Prosecution’s commitment to use advanced technology to deliver high-quality judicial services.

“The application seeks to increase communication between the community and the judiciary through modern technology in a way that preserves the community’s security as part of our corporate social responsibility programmes,” Dr Al Shamsi said.

“Security and stability in the community can only be maintained through joint efforts by both individuals and institutions, each in their own position.”

Members of the public can upload pictures, video or voice clips and report any illegal act or provide information about suspicious activities or behaviour to the Public Prosecution through the application.

The application is available at App Store and Play Store for downloading in both Arabic and English languages.

“Through the application, the user can explain the illegal act, its location and the time of happening, and attach evidence — a photo, video or voice clip — and then send it to the Public Prosecution,” Dr Al Shamsi said, noting that providing the identity of the sender is optional and, if provided, it will stay confidential.

The application was launched on June 25 and the first case after receiving evidence through the application was registered on June 27.

The case involved two men who posted a video on a social media platform promoting the use of cocaine.

The video was sent to the Public Prosecution through the application.

The Public Prosecution has an experienced team working 24/7 to monitor the app. The team received the information about the two men and verified its accuracy before registering the case.
