Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance on Sunday an Emirati man to six months in jail and fined for Dh20,000 for posting 30 abusive videos on Snapchat.
The court found him guilty of posting 30 unlawful and insulting videos against a female Emirati social media influencer in Abu Dhabi who has more than 500,000 followers.
The court also referred the case to the specialised civil court to look into the matter of compensation for the victim.
The forensic labouratory reports established that the video clips were produced by the man and publicised on social media site.
A female social media influencer of Abu Dhabi filed a complaint against the man for creating the video clips, which contained abusive and insulting words against her.
She lodged a complaint after one of her friends told her about the video messages.
The woman previously told the court the video footages undermined her dignity and damaged her reputation among her followers.
The man had generated the videos and circulated them to a large number of people.
The Emirati man denied creating the video clips and claimed that the woman had forged the videos.
However, labouratory reports and prosecutors’ investigations confirmed that the man created the insulting videos and spread them on social media, which violates the UAE cyber laws.
