Emirates News Agency, Chinese People’s Daily newspaper sign MoU

BOAO, China, 31st October, 2018 (WAM) — The Emirates News Agency, WAM, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese People’s Daily newspaper “People’s Daily” to enhance media cooperation, especially regarding the exchange of news and reports, and other media items, in line with the growing relations between the UAE and China.

The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road, which opened on Tuesday in Boao, southern China’s Hainan Province, by Mohammed Jalal Alrayssi, Executive Director of the Emirates News Agency, and Li Baoshan, Editor-in-Chief of People’s Daily.

The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and China, particularly between WAM and the Chinese newspaper via the exchange of various media items, aligning with the growing relations between the two friendly countries which are promoted under the Belt and Road Initiative – China’s gateway to the Middle East and the Gulf region and a global financial centre and incubator for a large number of international companies and leading projects in all fields.

Commenting on the signing, Mr. Alrayssi said that the memorandum will see both organisations exchange reports and opinion pieces, in addition to cooperate in organising press conferences and reports on the Belt and Road initiative, in both countries.

He added that under the MoU, the two sides will work on supporting the exchange of visits among their media personnel and facilitate the work of correspondents. Mr. Alrayssi further highlighted that this move is an opportunity to introduce the UAE and its role in supporting the Belt and Road at the cultural and media levels by ensuring the publishing of related news items especially since WAM launched its Chinese-language service.

The 2018 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road has attracted 256 guests, representing 205 media and institutions, from 90 countries and international organisations.

Under the theme, “Contributions by All and Benefits to All,” the three-day event will focus on discussions on three topics – “Belt and Road Regional Cooperation”, “Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Media” and “Silk Road Culture Development”.

The People’s Daily is the biggest newspaper group in China and the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, published worldwide with a circulation of three million.
