Policeman went to suspect’s flat after he had repeatedly knocked at woman’s door and ran away
Dubai A realty broker has been accused of getting drunk and assaulting a policeman, who was apprehending him for pestering his woman neighbour and constantly knocking at her door.
The woman was said to have requested her brother for help because her 36-year-old Pakistani neighbour, the realty broker, had been annoyingly knocking at her door in April.
The 36-year-old used to repeatedly knock at the door and run away, according to records, before the brother came out to confront him and they indulged in a physical altercation.
Once the broker, who happened to be drunk, assaulted the brother, the latter reported the matter to the police.
When a policeman knocked at the door of the suspect’s apartment in Dubai International City, he came out and pushed the policeman repeatedly.
When the policeman tried to handcuff the suspect, he hit on his chest and pushed him to the ground.
Records said the policeman and his colleague restrained the suspect, handcuffed him and took him to the police station.
Prosecutors charged the suspect with assaulting the policeman and getting drunk.
The suspect denied assaulting the policeman when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
However, he admitted before presiding judge Urfan Omar that he had consumed liquor.
The policeman, who was assaulted, told prosecutors that they had been called to the building because the suspect had been making trouble.
“The complainant told us that the suspect had assaulted and cursed him. We went to the flat of the suspect, who came out and seemed too drunk. He pushed me several times for no reason … when I tried to handcuff him, he pushed me down to the floor. I injured my leg,” the policeman told prosecutors.
A ruling in the case will be announced on June 28.
