ABU DHABI, 25th February, 2019 (WAM) — Shaikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council and President of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, said that the “Declaration on Human Fraternity,” which was signed in the UAE, aims to promote peace between Islam and Christianity.
He made this statement during the eighth meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, which was held today in Abu Dhabi, under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohammed Mattar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Secretary-General of the Forum, and members of the council.
He added that the forum aims to highlight Islam’s peace and tolerance, because globalisation, the normalisation of human dignity and respect for religious differences can be used against extremism.
The council’s Board of Trustees highlighted the importance of the UAE’s role in supporting tolerance and world peace, by implementing its values of understanding and peace, as well as organising conferences that aim to counter the deviant thinking and highlight the true image of Islam, the religion of peace, mercy, justice and equality.
The meeting discussed several issues, including the council’s sixth annual forum and its future initiatives and themes, which include the concept of tolerance in Islamic scripture, tolerance under a Western context, the foundations of tolerance in Islam and other religions, the culture and importance of tolerance, and potential nominees for the “Al Hassan bin Ali International Peace Award.”
