Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abu Dhabi praises UAE’s moderate approach

ABU DHABI, 8th April, 2018 (WAM) — Officials of the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abu Dhabi praised the UAE’s moderate approach and its efforts to promote the values of tolerance, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence among various religions and beliefs, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Officials made their statement while celebrating Easter yesterday, in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance.

The celebration was also attended by Ali Al Hashemi, Advisor to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; Dr. Mohammed Mattar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments; Wael Al Sayed Mohamed Gad, Egyptian Ambassador to the UAE; Bishop Antonius Michael, Pastor of the Coptic Cathedral in Abu Dhabi, along with scholars from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, priests, heads of Christian denominations, businessmen, members of the Egyptian Embassy and Egyptian citizens in the UAE.

During his speech, Sheikh Nahyan said this year’s Easter celebrations coincide with the Year of Zayed, which commemorates the UAE’s founding leader, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who established the country’s humanitarian values from Islamic teachings. He added that the UAE is a leading model of coexistence, love and peace, and has made tolerance a duty and responsibility.

He added that the country’s popular and official celebration of Easter confirms that President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his brothers, Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, are following in the path of Sheikh Zayed, who promoted tolerance, positivity and peaceful coexistence.

Bishop Antonius Michael thanked the UAE’s leadership, led by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa, and stressed that Easter is a happier holiday this year because of the Year of Zayed. He also praised this year’s official and popular remembrance of Sheikh Zayed, who laid the foundations of the country’s moderation, and highlighted his international humanitarian efforts.
