GENEVA, 20th October, 2018 (WAM) — Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, met today, on the sidelines of the 139th Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, meetings in Geneva, with Rodolfo Urtubey, President of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean, GRULAC, and his accompanying delegation.
They discussed a number of topics of mutual interest and exchanged views on current regional and international developments.
Dr. Al Qubaisi extended an invitation to the president and representatives of member countries of the GRULAC to attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the World Future Energy Summit, to share their respective experiences in clean energy.
She stressed the importance of peace as a pillar of co-existence among nations and said that territorial disputes should be resolved by either direct dialogue or by referring them to the relevant international bodies.
In this regard, Dr. Al Qubaisi urged Iran to respond positively to the UAE’s initiative to reach a peaceful solution to the UAE’s three occupied islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, through direct negotiations and in line with the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law.
She also emphasised the need to combat the scourge of terrorism and to strengthen cultural interaction among the different nations of the world.
