Al Ain: A student from Brighton College Al Ain has obtained the highest GCSE grade in the world in Arabic.
The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is an academically rigorous, internationally recognised qualification, generally taken in a number of subjects by pupils in secondary education in the UK.
Mohammad Al Qawasmeh, a Jordanian pupil who is now studying for A-level at the school, said: “I’m extremely proud of my achievement. My biggest inspiration to excel in my studies is my mother who has a PhD in education.”
The GCSE results were published last September and the worldwide results released at the end of 2017.
Mohammad joined Brighton College Al Ain in its opening year and is currently studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology at A-level. Mohammad’s goal is to become a surgeon. He is also a keen basketball player and loves to read, in Arabic, about Arab history and civilisation.
Speaking on the secret of his success, he added: “To always be completely systematic in my exams. I always allow myself much longer than others to check and double check every single detail of each answer.”
Commenting on Mohammad’s success Dr Ken Greig, head master of Brighton College Al Ain, said: “At Brighton College we are focused on providing inspirational teaching, whilst nurturing our students to have a love for learning. We believe in and understand the importance of integrating and using Arabic as a first or additional language throughout the college’s culture and daily life and continually seek opportunities for pupils to experience and demonstrate ease with Arabic outside the classroom: in assemblies, exhibitions and other educational settings in which they may find themselves.”
Dr Grieg added: “Mohammad’s achievement is testament to his hard work and the support of the teachers at Brighton College. We are immensely proud of him and look forward to continuing to support his educational journey throughout his A-levels.”
