UMM AL QAIWAIN, 2nd April, 2019 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, issued Law No.1 for 2019 on the creation of the Department of Tourism and Antiquities in Umm Al Qaiwain.
The law stipulates the creation of the department, with the aim of developing and promoting the tourism sector both inside and outside the emirate, in line with the cultural heritage and values of the Emirati community.
The department will have a chairman and director, who will be appointed upon a decree issued by Sheikh Saud, as well as a sufficient number of employees who can perform their tasks as per the provisions of the law.
As per the law, the department will draft general tourism policies and strategies, with the aim of investing in the tourism sector and developing sustainable resources, under the framework of the emirate’s general development policy. It will also coordinate with relevant authorities and sectors, such as tourism institutions, airlines, hotels and transportation companies in the region and other Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, countries, to promote local tourism attractions, adopt general plans and programmes related to tourism development, develop its activities and identify financial, administrative and technical requirements as per the emirate’s budget.
The department will also organise investment and financing programmes, hold conferences, seminars, exhibitions and tourism festivals, and participate in related regional events.
It will also conduct research to identify opportunities for tourism investment, which will be submitted to the Executive Council, as well as draft policies and procedures related to the licencing of local tourism establishments, collect fees from hotels and travel agents, supervise the collection of tourism and hotel fees, and adopt rules, systems and sub-legislations to regulate local tourism and hotel establishments.
H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla also issued Emiri Decree No. 1 for 2019, appointing Sheikh Majed bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla as chairman of the department.
Any legislation contradicting or inconsistent with the provisions of this decree shall be repealed. The decree shall be effective from the date of its issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
