RTA makes it easy for people of determination

New website among a series RTA initiatives facilitating people with different abilities

Dubai: People of determination can now access the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) website without anyone’s help as the new portal is compatible for the use of people with different abilities.

Launched in February this year, the website helps people with difficulty in hearing or seeing or those who can’t use a mouse to access various e-services.

“The site is accessible and works exactly like a regular website, on the internet. However, it is equipped with certain features that make it easy for the people of determination to navigate through the website,” said Moaza Al Merri, director of marketing and corporate communications, RTA.

She added that the site is built with specialised features that cater to the needs of different categories of people of determination, via dedicated web pages.

For those with difficulty in seeing the site possesses advanced colour scheme change and font resizing features as well as audio features.

While for those with difficulty in hearing the site displays videos showcasing RTA services with characters interacting via sign language.

As for those who can’t use a mouse, a dedicated page is equipped with advanced keyboard usability features which eliminate the need to use a mouse.

The site also enables people of determination to easily contact RTA representatives, by just sending their mobile number, to avail all services.

“It educates the visitors about the services and facilities, provided by RTA, for the people of determination along with job opportunities for people of determination at RTA. It also hosts various video tutorials (‘how to’ videos) with characters communicating via sign language for the people who have hearing problems.

The special site that has currently around 200 average daily page views is part of RTA’s efforts to help Dubai become one of the most accessible cities in the world for people of determination.

Accessibility for people with different abilities is a key aspect of all RTA projects ranging from low-floored public transport buses and dedicated spaces for people on wheelchairs, tactile floor paths at all Dubai Metro stations to guide the visually impaired people as well as dedicated ticketing and customer service counters for people with different abilities.

Reserved parking spaces across the city as well as at the entrances of metro stations as well as special needs-friendly marine stations are also among the features that stand out among the RTA services.
