DUBAI, 7th January, 2019 (WAM) — The Olympic Planning Committee has discussed all reports and activities of the National Olympic Committee, NOC, during the past period, with the aim of enhancing various achievements and examining plans and results of the Sports Federations participation based on the reports submitted by the Olympic Technical Committee.
This came during a meeting the Committee held yesterday at the NOC’s premises. Dr. Ghanem Mohammed Al Hajri, Vice-President of the Olympic Planning Committee, chaired the meeting in the presence of Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the National Olympic Committee, Rashid Al Mutawa, Hamda Al Qubaisi, and Adel Al Sayed, the Rapporteur of the Committee.
The participants were briefed on the suggestions and recommendations of the Olympic Creativity Laboratory of the Planning Committee on the proposal to classify and identify the results of the Olympic Creativity Laboratory in support of the National Olympic Committee’s strategy.
The strategy included 10 pillars, including the sports evaluation, promotion of sports activities and performance of athletes, renewal and support of partnerships, community programmes, promotional and sports materials, health culture, qualification of sports personnel and decisions in support of the implementation of recommendations.
The meeting discussed the final report of the 6th School Olympics and praised the efforts of the Executive Office and key partners namely, the Ministry of Education, Educational Zone, General Authority for Sport, Ministry of Health and Community Protection, and the Sports Councils and Associations.
The meeting emphasised the need to streamline the student improvement, whether technical, administrative or organisational aspects.
The Olympic Planning Committee reviewed the report of participation in the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, which is the largest in terms of numerical presence and witnessed the biggest collection of 14 coloured medals, where athletes participated in 20 individual and team sports. The Committee stressed the need to adhere to the principle of participation for competition and achievement. It commended the achievement of the rider Omar Abdel Aziz Al Marzouki, who won the first medal in the history of the UAE’s participation in the Olympic Youth Games through silver medal in the showjumping event of Buenos Aires Games, Argentina.
The meeting concluded by reviewing the report of the NOC’s participation in the 23rd General Assembly which was held in Tokyo last November. It also reviewed the 2019 National Olympic Academy program which includes organising 20 courses for administrative, technical and sports personnel from various concerned sports entities.
