Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi government-owned investment company, has announced a joint venture with Belgium’s Solvay to make primary composite materials in the UAE for the aerospace industry.
The partnership with Solvay, a chemical and advanced-materials company, will make “prepreg” materials, which are reinforced with synthetic resin.
The as-yet-unnamed joint venture will be established through Mubadala’s aerospace manufacturing subsidiary Strata and is expected to be operational by 2021. It will be located in the Nibras Al Ain Aerospace Park.
“The joint venture will create new job demand for highly skilled Emirati engineers, alongside existing talent that is currently employed by Strata,” said Homaid Al Shimmari, the chief executive of aerospace and engineering services at Mubadala.
The joint venture has already received a primary supply contract from Strata’s partner Boeing for the new 777X aircraft programme.
