Dubai: Commercial Vehicles in Dubai will now get e-registration cards only as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) phases out the plastic cards issued after registration of vehicles.
The move comes as the RTA continues migration of its services to smart channels, marking the second phase of vehicle e-registration cards.
Phase one saw the issuance of e-cards to all government and rental vehicles as well as taxis, while the second phase will cover vehicles owned by companies.
In the third phase, which will start in September, the programme will cover individually-owned vehicles, eventually covering all Dubai vehicles.
“By adopting smart ways of issuing e-registration cards for vehicles we aim to bring happiness to people as it is saving their times and efforts. Phase two targets organisations or company-owned vehicles, having completed the initial phase covering government vehicles, car rentals and taxis,” said Sultan Al Marzooqi, Director of Vehicles Licensing at RTA’s Licensing Agency.
The service can be availed by downloading the RTA App (RTA-Dubai Drive) on smartphones, or through email.
“The mechanism and steps of the electronic transformation of registration cards have already been mapped out. Letters have been sent to the concerned parties, and workshops were held engaging various entities, categories and segments,” added Al Marzooqi.
The process involves the issuance of lifetime vehicle registration cards (no expiry dates).
“The e-cards will be issued once and renewed each year as per the applicable procedures; which can be reviewed through the RTA’s apps,“ he said.
