Abu Dhabi Global Market appoints registrar of courts

Abu Dhabi Global Market (AFDGM), the capital’s new financial free zone, has continued its recruitment ahead of its opening with the appointment of Linda Fitz-Alan as registrar of ADGM Courts.

ADGM said in a statement that she will “lead the development and implementation of the Courts organisation and operational structure as well as facilitate and manage courtroom processes. She will also play an important role in supporting the completion of ADGM Courts’ regulations and rules.”

Ms Fitz-Alan has more than 30 years legal experience and was the chief executive and principal registrar of the supreme court of New South Wales for four years.

Other positions included being a partner at Colin Biggers & Paisley in Sydney, Australia, a partner at TressCox in Sydney, and a senior litigation claim counsel at CNA Insurance in New York City, USA.

She will report to the courts’ chief justice David Hope, who was recently appointed to head up the legal structure at the free zone.

ADGM Courts of the First Instance and of Appeal will have jurisdiction over all civil and commercial disputes within Al Maryah Island, the jurisdiction of Abu Dhabi Global Market.

ADGM is preparing to admit its first members by the end of this year.
